HD7 MTK6513 Android 2.3 Smartphone Review

Hi folks this blog is a hands on review of the China phone HD7 runing Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread sponsored by Sciphone Settings.

Firstly  when I first saw the images and the spec of this phone I must say that I was really impressed with what was stated by the Chinese website that was offering the phone for sale, see phone spec bellow.

I am no stranger to the Android mobile OS an have been a fan since my first Android the Acer Liquid S100 back in 2009, it was a fantastic midrange smart-phone which got me hooked onto the Android. Since then I've used several other mobile platforms including the iphone which I must say is very smooth but I don't feel comfortable using Apple products for personal reasons.

Anyway the HD7 is a sleek looking Android smart-phone which is a clone of the popular HTC HD7 but that is where the familiarities end, although the store will claim the cloned HD7 runs a dual core 1024Mhz processor this is totally not true yes the phone has 2 processors but the MTK6513 650mhz runs the android system while the ARM 416MHz DSP chip runs the phones GSM to make and receive phone calls.

650MHz chip for this phone is just not enough processing power for this phone and not to mention that it has only 256mb of RAM making the phone run very slow and sluggish that's the last thing you want from a smart-phone which will have you pulling your hair out.

I found the phones booting Time to be very slow at 1 minute 59 seconds from pressing the power on to phone coming on-line ready to use. The other disappointing thing was that the battery Stand by time is around 12 hours and thats without any wifi or any other connections or phone calls which is not realistic situation as owners of any smart-phones know if your not making calls your surfing the Internet or using some kind of app. If you use the phone for the purpose it was made for then the battery lasts around disappointing 3 hours with wifi connected surfing and making phone calls you'll probably need to be connected to the mains charging the phone at least 4 time as a regular user.

The main Camera on the back of the phone is stated to be a 5Mega Pixel but having used 5MP cameras on my previous phone it's very unlikely to be true it looks more like a 3.2MP and the two led flash lights are just not bright enough to provide light for the camera. The camera on the front of the phone is not worth using at all as the image quality is very poor waist of space if you ask me.

One of the other major problem is that none of the Voice over IP apps such as Skype, Tango, Gtalk and Viber will work on this phone I'm not quite on the reason why but I have tried them all one by one and it's a no go!

This is a very poor clone of the HTC HD7 although it they look very similar thats where the familiarities end, the processor is not a dual core but has two chips one for the operating system while the arm runs the gsm so even the marketing and statments that this site has made are false. It's a peice of junk don't throw your money away get a secound hand original by paying a little more as you will be very disopointed with this phone.

After realising the poor quality of the phone and the misleading advertising that Mart-Shopping had made to sell this phone I contacted them to ask if I could return the phone there answer was the same as many other Chinese on-line retailers a big fat No!

Marks out of 10 - 3 Don't waist your money on this Android!

Sciphone i68 4G Review part1

Sciphone i68 4G Review

The Sciphone i68 4G is a very attractive phone using the Nucleus Plus operating system and is a popular iphone clone from China. The phone comes unlocked to any network other then the 3 mobile networks this in it self could save you money instead of signing into a contract. It is quad band so it supports all four GSM frequencies: 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz; and is therefore a world phone because it can be used anywhere in the world.

The phone has two SIM card slots so you can be with two networks at the same time which is a useful feature if for example you want to use a number for work and another for personal calls, you can be available to take or make calls with both SIMs at any one time, making calls from either SIM is very easy as after dialling the required number you simply select the Sim you want to make the call from.

The phone measures Length 115mm Width 62mm Depth 10mm which is slightly larger then the iphone 4 so the accessories such as cases or gloves wont fit, the display is a relatively large 3.2 inch touch screen offering 240 by 320 pixels. It appears to support 16 bits per colour. The phones interface is easy to use ignoring the fact that the screen is not the most responsive on the market. It has the slide-to-unlock feature to stop any unwanted phone calls being made while in your packet.
The i68 4G accepts MicroSD flash memory card supposedly up to 32 GB capacity, I personally have tried the 16GB and this has work well on my phone.
It has a built-in motion and orientation sensor and some of the phone software responds to sudden motion (shaking) and/or to whether you are holding it in landscape or portrait orientation.

The only buttons are the round frontal button and three buttons on the left side near the top, the top button switches the default camera from front to back as the i68 4G has Dual cameras – 1.3 MP Pixel high resolution. The built-in camera is essentially just a webcam. It could never substitute for a real camera. It is not easy to take a decent picture with this camera. As with most mobile phones it’s always useful to take pictures in bright and well lit areas make sure you keep the phone very still or use the timer function.
The i68 4G same connection/charger as the iphone but for some reason it connects back to from “still don’t know the reason for this; unfortunately it does not work with Apple iTunes.

The phone comes with 2 lithium ion batteries which are quite useful as they don’t last to long especially if you’re a constant user, my advice to you would be to buy an original Nokia BL-4C you can get these online from around £6.99. It runs Java "MIDP" programs (also known as midlets) such as games and organizer programs.  Sciphonesettings.co.uk has a App Store with a wide selection of app for this phone.
